While annual snowfall and rainfall each average almost 50 inches in Boston, you’ll find less of both in Pittsburgh, which typically gets around 28 inches of snow and 38 inches of rain each year. 

Penguins, Pirates and Steelers, oh my!

Pittsburgh is a great town for sports fans, with three professional teams to cheer on.  

MLB: The Pittsburgh Pirates, founded in 1882, are the oldest pro team in the city. They won two championships before the World Series was established and five more afterward. 

NFL: Active since 1933, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the Super Bowl 6 times and have an estimated fanbase of over 6.3 million people. 

NHL: Prefer your sports on ice? The Pittsburgh Penguins have you covered with ice hockey and are 5-time champions since their establishment in 1967. 

Enjoy a lower cost of living in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh generally has a lower cost of living than Boston, especially housing. Average salaries in the city are close to national averages.  

Health care is the leading industry in the metro area. Other top employers include the Bank of New York Mellon, Carnegie Mellon University, Google, Rivers Casino, United States Steel Corp., and the University of Pittsburgh.
