Moving from Charlotte, NC, to Jacksonville, FL
Making a move from the Queen City to the River City
Relocating nearly 400 miles from Charlotte, NC, to Jacksonville, FL, takes you through two states and along the beautiful Atlantic Coast.
While Charlotte, known as “The Queen City,” was incorporated earlier than Jacksonville, your new city has an exciting history. The city’s land has evidence of inhabitation dating back thousands of years, based on pottery remnants discovered in the area dating back to 2500 BCE.
Keep reading for more information about Jacksonville, nicknamed “The River City” because of the prominence of the St. Johns River running through it. Fun fact: It’s one of the few rivers in the United States that flows north.
Which city is bigger?
While Jacksonville is nearing 1 million residents, compared to around 911,000 in Charlotte, you’ll feel less crowded in Florida because of population density differences. Jacksonville has more land mass — almost three times as much as Charlotte — so the city’s residents can spread out a bit.
Looking at the metro area populations, Jacksonville has around 1.7 million, compared to more than 2.8 million in Charlotte’s metro. Both cities are the most populated in their states, and neither are capital cities.
Year-round mild temperatures
Like Charlotte, Jacksonville experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters. You’ll feel familiar summer highs in the low 90s and lows in the 70s.
Jacksonville receives an average of around 50 inches of rainfall annually, compared to 43 inches in Charlotte. Snow is extremely rare in Jacksonville, with average winter lows around 44 degrees. The last recorded winter precipitation was on December 23, 1989. Charlotte typically receives an average of 2 inches of snow per year, with average winter low temperatures hovering just below freezing.
