Moving over 2,300 miles across the country from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Orlando, Florida, is the start of an incredible adventure from the desert to a tropical weather paradise. 

Las Vegas is the most populous place in Nevada, with close to 650,000 city residents. Orlando has less than half the population, with around 308,000 people in the city. However, when you compare the metro areas, Orlando has around 2.7 million, larger than the 2.27 million people in Vegas.

Get ready for a tropical climate

Although it isn’t an oceanfront town, Orlando experiences a tropical climate. So, if you’re tired of the oppressive heat from the desert environment of Vegas, you’ll experience some new weather patterns in Florida. 

Vegas gets less than 5 inches of rain per year, but the annual rainfall is around 53 inches in Orlando. You might want to buy an umbrella or two once you arrive in Florida. 

Winter precipitation is rare in both cities, and it’s actually a bit warmer during the season in Orlando, with January lows around 49 degrees compared to 36 degrees in Las Vegas. 

Things to do in Orlando

Orlando is famous for Walt Disney World, SeaWorld, Universal Studios and multiple smaller theme parks, earning it the nickname “The Theme Park Capital of the World.” 

For more family-friendly fun, visit museums like Crayola Experience Orlando, the Chocolate Museum and Café, the Museum of Illusions, the Orlando Auto Museum and the Orlando Museum of Art. 

If you’re up for a road trip, you’ll find the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, just 70 miles away, and you’ll arrive at Cocoa Beach or Daytona Beach in about an hour or Clearwater Beach in under three hours. 

Adjust to a higher cost of living

Orlando typically has a higher cost of living than Las Vegas, but keep in mind that there is no state income tax, so you’ll get to take home more of your salary. 

Over 300 schools and 9 colleges are in the area to serve your family’s educational needs. 

As a tourism hub, ample jobs are available in hospitality at the many hotels and resorts. 

You’ll find more employment opportunities in aviation, education, healthcare, and video game design.
